Waikato Presentation-Friday 18th February.

The Society will be holding a presentation for people in the Waikato region.

The aim is to inform the population there, with cerebral palsy, about the benefits that the Society can offer to its members.
We have begun a radio advertising campaign with one ad running in late January. This advert,  was really just to get our name out there, the current advert, is advising people of the presentation we will be holding at Wintec (City Campus) on Friday the 18th February in the early evening. This is a bit of an experiment to establish the efficacy of radio advertising, so it will be interesting to see the response.

If you would like to attend the presentation then fill out the on-line registration by clicking on the link below. We will advise you of time and location by email or phone.

Whilst here, check out the programmes (on the menu to the left) and the benefits of membership.

Any further queries call the Society's office on 0800 503-603.

(Apologies, link below may not be working at present. If you find this then check again this evening.)

Parking problems at Festival

As a lifelong aficionado of food from on top of, or below the ocean, I couldn’t resist the temptation of sampling what was advertised as New Zealand’s largest seafood restaurant.

As I approached Auckland’s viaduct to partake in the seafood festival I found myself in confrontation with this official looking guy, who was fanatically motioning me to turn right. I of course drove straight ahead and up alongside him.

Where is the disabled car park mate,” I said.

His startled look and tight jaw relaxed once he assessed the situation. Turned out to be a very nice chap as he arranged for my van and I to be escorted right up to the gate where a parking space was found.  Situation solved? Not by a long shot.

Turns out my trusty van was blocking the sponsor’s signs. I could see their point in a way but where do I park now.

Adam came to my rescue. Adam just happened to be the first man - the General Manager of Viaduct Harbour in fact. My new best friend had no hesitation in jumping into my van’s passenger seat to help me search for the Holy Grail, which I envisioned as an empty car park space.

Well after numerous turns –at least one I suspect was suspiciously illegal- we found not one space empty.

Luckily my mate Adam had considerable clout and arranged for me to become an official restaurateur for the day, as my van lay dormant in the staff car park for the afternoon.

After the considerable walk, or in my case motorised wheelchair cruise back to the entrance, Adam was already focusing on his next problem. Apparently one of his underlings had gone AWOL. I wished him luck and thanked him graciously for his assistance.

Had a great time at the festival. Met some old friends I haven’t seen in years, including my dentist who reminded me of that fact.

But what a mission to get in.  A little thought on the provision of official disabled car parks in close proximity to the festival would be useful for next year.

By the way, don’t take my word as gospel, but I didn’t see any wheelchair accessible portaloos at the venue either. That caused a wee problem as well
