Celebrities’ embraced; diets on hold

One hundred and sixty members rocked on with the Diva Cabaret at Auckland’s Alexandra Park’s Tasman room on Saturday 25th of June.

There was a great variety of entertainment including Billy Idol with a frightening frizzled hair do, a highly intoxicated Amy Winehouse who was on the way to Rehab, not to mention the showgirls. Well now that I have mentioned them these long legged beauties were rather nice. One lucky birthday boy had a moment to cherish when he was serenaded, Marilyn Monroe style, by one of the glamour girls, much to the envy of the other males in the room.

Perhaps the highlight of the performance was the humorous encore, from last year, when each performer revealed their preferred occupation if they were not on stage. Swim instructors, Plumbers, Taxi Drivers and Professional Tennis players were represented.

The fun and games started when the group stood too close to each other and threatened grievous body harm to their fellow performers, when their well rehearsed actions were in full swing. The item rivalled the comedic duo of yesteryear, Laurel and Hardy, at their peak.

There was plenty of audience participation, especially if we include the activity of eating –lol. Once again diets went out the window with the promise of starting tomorrow. But who can blame any of the attendees for over-indulging just a little bit.

Once again many thanks to member manager Janet Chapman who made the Cabaret the success it was.
