Perfect Boccia Opportunity

The Boccia Beginners day on Saturday 11th December is a great way to start your boccia career. It will be a fun-filled day based out at the Ellerslie Recreation Centre on Michaels Ave. Lunch will be supplied by the CP Society. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for further detail.

During my youth I remember looking on in envy, watching the wheelchair basketball guys have all the fun. Many years later boccia arrived on the scene and at last I had the chance to play competitive sport. A journey that took me to two Paralympics and to world ranked tournaments throughout the world.

Our Boccia Director Luke Morriss has created the perfect opportunity to start your journey in the sporting arena.  So come along and give it a go. Basically boccia is a simple game because all you have to do is to roll your ball close to the target white ball.

However as you begin to find out on December the 11th the sport has a lot of subtle tactics. For example instead of aiming for the white ball you can place a ball to block your opponents or you may decide to throw a long ball to cover the back of the court. After a while you automatically work out how best to throw the ball or use a ramp.

Of course all these tactics are for future consideration. On December 11th the emphasis is on the fun side of boccia and believe me there is a lot of fun to be had.

Early planning for the day consists of various games and activities based on a "king of the court" style format where you can play to the level you are at and move up and down the courts. There is a strong possibility that some prizes will be up for grabs too.

The sport of boccia guarantees fun and laughter. It also offers the possibility of travelling around the country or even representing New Zealand around the world.

Start your journey on December the 11th

Historical photos are urgently required, as the Society heads towards its 60th Anniversary, in early March. A large chunk of the time left is taken up by the Christmas holiday period, so we need to gather up imagery of the past, by the end of October.

Please contact General Manager Harvey Brunt as soon as possible to ensure your historic photos are photo copied in a completely safe environment. Ring 0800 503 603 Email cpsociety@cpsociety.org.nz

The photos are needed for the Anniversary booklet and presentation which will be part of the ceremony, on the night of March 12th 2011.
