Photos urgently required

Historical photos are urgently required, as the Society heads towards its 60th Anniversary, in early March. A large chunk of the time left is taken up by the Christmas holiday period, so we need to gather up imagery of the past, by the end of October.

Please contact General Manager Harvey Brunt as soon as possible to ensure your historic photos are photo copied in a completely safe environment. Ring 0800 503 603 Email cpsociety@cpsociety.org.nz

The photos are needed for the Anniversary booklet and presentation which will be part of the ceremony, on the night of March 12th 2011.

One of the most satisfying historic discoveries is that Cerebral Palsy people themselves have been directly involved, throughout the 60 years. In fact it was 16 cerebral palsied people who organised the first CP conference over the 1950-1 holiday period. From this conference the Spastic Fellowship was born.  As members of the Fellowship aged and passed on a group of young mothers rejuvenated the Society and they are the forerunners of our present system.

A lot of our past members have been residents at Pukeroa, a home for the disabled in Hawkes Bay, patients at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Rotorua and pupils of the Carlson school for Cerebral Palsy children originally situated in the four main New Zealand centres.

In contemporary times our members are accepted to a large degree into main stream society. There is always room for improvement but thanks to the ground work of our pioneers we are making headway.

Our Society has had a colourful past. We need to honour our pioneers with imagery as well as words.
