“Getting Out There” in Hamilton

Home

I was really lucky at the CP Society lunch this year in Auckland - I won the top draw prize of $300-00 worth of “Get Out There” vouchers. What a surprise! On top of that I had just received my new green vouchers and still had a lot of my blue ones left. After my name was called as the winner Bob from Allways Mobility Transport came over to congratulate me and I said to him “Where should I go?” Jokingly he said “Hamilton” and I said “What a good idea”. He didn’t know that I had wanted to go for a long time in order to see my cousin and her mother, my 94 year old aunt. So I arranged for Bob and Spenceley to pick me up on Boxing

Day and at 9-30 and we set off for a great day out.

We arrived in Hamilton at 11-00 and met my cousin at Hamilton Lake. We spent over an hour walking around the lake, me on my scooter and my cousin on foot. What a lovely walk, the scenery was beautiful and the weather really kind. I enjoyed it so much I want to go again! My aunt lives in Ohaupo just south of Hamilton. We had a great time talking about our family and all the good times we have had over the last fifty years. My aunt and cousin are a lovely family and my family used to stay with them on their farm. At 94 she no longer farms and now lives in a rest home.

In the afternoon we went to the Hamilton Gardens beside the Waikato River on the road south to Rotorua, about 5 minutes from Hamilton town centre. I have wanted to visit the gardens for so long and I was not disappointed. They are the best gardens I have ever seen with water features, lush trees and shrubs and a fantastic rose garden in full bloom. We left Hamilton at 5-30 and got home at 7-00. What a wonderful day out!
Thank you CP Society for making it all possible.
