Something Interesting From the Aussies!

Well the Aussies have adopted (....stolen) a number of thing from the Kiwis so I do not feel so bad about doing the same to them.

This research which was commissioned by Cerebral Palsy Australia is a great read and has some excellent (if somewhat depressing) facts included. I have had a good read and have indicated in yellow some of the things that tweaked my interest. Anyone with cerebral palsy will find the data involved in this report of great interest.

For example:

“Compared to other health conditions CP is a condition with a higher disability burden than being blind, deaf, having severe asthma or diabetes”

“In one study in the UK, 85% of the cohort of adults with CP (who survived to age 20) survived to age 50 compared to 95% of the general population”

“Some form of employment data was collected for 137 people with CP- covering ages from 15-64. The overwhelming majority (93%) were engaged in supported employment”

Perhaps the only drawback I saw when reading it was that it treated the vast spectrum that cerebral palsy is, as just one condition. So when looking at some statistics it was difficult to relate to them. Also some of the extrapolations were somewhat pushed to the limit.

Anyway I recommend this report to you all
(Many thanks to Tracy Wadsworth for bringing this report to my attention ? )
