| Holiday
Concerns Eased |
Shake off those wintery blues, by turning away from
the foul weather scene outside and clicking on www.accomobility.co.nz.
By following these instructions a New Zealand holiday is only a mindset
away. Accomobility.com is a comprehensive guide to accessible accommodation
in New Zealand, developed by Wellingtonians Lianne and Peter Kalivati.
The Kalivati’s were catapulted into the disability world when
Peter was diagnosed with motor neuron disease, in November 2006. The
couple were still determined to enjoy their holiday breaks but were
increasingly frustrated by the lack of quality information about accommodation,
for the disabled. The result is this impressive website.
The main feature is the “Search NZ” section where nineteen
regions throughout the country are put to the accessibility test.
Each accommodation site is well documented detailing such things as
parking for the disabled, the accessibility of the shower area and
whether or not travellers can check in early and check out late by
arrangement. The bathroom/shower coverage is particularly impressive,
as it includes valuable information, like is there space for a commode
chair on both sides of the cistern and whether or not there is a lip
or step into the shower.
The hearing and visually impaired will also find useful information,
to ease their holiday concerns and there is a nice touch to the
majority of sites, which includes a small map pointing out each
accommodation location.
Both Peter and Lianne appreciate the ingenuity and design expertise
of their good friends, Richard Laing and his partner Lynda Beckham,
who made the concept of this accessibility website a reality.
So before you go and explore this beautiful land of ours folks,
click into www.accomobility.co.nz., for a smoother planning process
